4. The world view Jomon people think. 4-2. The religion for Jomon people. |
|||||
It seems that the Jomon people's religion is the polytheism to be based on the animism. And, it is said that the people in those days had held the religious ceremony with using the clay dolls and so on as the ritual utensil, corresponding to the timetable of a year to spend. It is said the clay dolls having the shape of woman are the symbol of the good harvest and reproduction. And, the good harvest and reproduction always were the serious matter of concern for Jomon people. Therefore, it has to think the clay dolls like that often were used in the prayer about the hunting's and agriculture's or other's going well. Then, concerning the funeral, it is said that the bones of mankind often are excavated out of the shell mound. In other words, the shell mound was the holy place offering up the prayer to the things to go to the other world, not the simple dumping ground. If it considers the Ainu's religious viewpoint, it can understand easily the religious meaning of shell mound. Notice Ainu belongs to the old type Mongoloid as the Jomon people are so. Ainu have believed that all things in this world return to the world of gods and goddesses when they finished one's works in this world. It is because those things all were god or goddess, at Ainu's worldview. Thereupon, it thinks about the Ainu's religious viewpoint and worldview a little more for some time. Today, only Ainu people are the people of old type Mongoloid living in the Japanese Islands. Even if it says that they belong to the direct lineage of the Jomon people, it never be exaggeration. And, it is certain that we also are inheriting the Jomon culture and also the genes of Jomon people, whether the inherited blood is many or not, if it considers obediently the feature of our brain and our history. Therefore, to understand ourself, it is very important to know the Ainu's religious viewpoint and world view. However, it seems that the Jomon people had very active outgoing character. In other words, it seems that they are slightly different at the temperament from the Ainu who stopped the progress of civilization. This is the problem to treat carefully. But, sometime it would reason why a community stops the evolution of civilization as a time if there is the occasion for it. So, the Ainu's worldview is based on the animism fundamentally. The Mother Nature for them is the appearance of the gods and goddesses. Even if it says that it is the gods and goddesses itself, it never be exaggeration. Most of gods and goddesses come to this world from the world of the gods and goddesses(spiritual world), trying to give Ainu the benefits. So, the people worshiped and greeted the gods and goddesses with the gratitude. It seems that in the old times, the contact between the Ainu and the gods and goddesses was the daily occurrences of life. Therefore, their culture and norms almost were composed of the manners and ceremony, that is, the way to get along with the gods and goddesses(the Nature) fundamentally. Then, in this case, the Nature includes the human being. So, for Ainu, the words were the means of contact effective not only among each person but also in between them and the gods and goddesses. It seems that the lie was the most detestable act in their society. It is because the words were the means necessary to call the gods and goddesses to this world. They must have believed the words to be holy. And, it seems that Jomon people also had the same thought as Ainu fundamentally. So, I named Jomon people's understanding of words " the Thought of Tak", that is, "the Thought of Coto-siro" as it stated before. Therefore, it is supposed that in those days the verbal promise was the more important contract than the written contract though it doesn't know whether there was a written contract in those days because it still isn't confirmed. Probably, their contract like that was the contract made between a heart and a heart, not between an organization and an organization. In that reason, it seems that such verbal promise could keep the effectiveness. Anyhow, it is certain that the good faith to the verbal promise Ainu people in the old times had is the virtue apt to be pushed to the bottom of the heart, at the present civilization. However, the world Ainu images never be the simple world composed of the gods and goddesses. It is because they hold the ceremony which is called "Kamuy-nomi". The "Kamuy nomi" is the ceremony to make the soul, that is, god or goddess having lost the body in this world go back to the spiritual world, that is, the land of the gods and goddesses. In other words, it gets the souls of the broken tools, the dead persons and animals, and so on to go back to the spiritual world in the words of gratitude. If so, it isn't so hard to suppose that the shell mound in the Jomon period also was the place for this ceremony. In passing, it is supposed that the "Hari-kuyou", that is, the "memorial service for needle" to be seen in present Japan is the trace of the ceremony like this. For the Ainu people, the world is composed of two world, that is, this world making the gods and goddesses active and also the spiritual world called the land of the gods and goddesses. And, as it stated before, the word of "i-tak" meaning the "words" they use includes that a someone's uttering the name of the god or goddess makes the god or goddess active in this world. In other words, it means that it makes the concept of something phenomenon in this world by the words. Therefore, the materialization of concept like that as the phenomenon is different from the simple mirror reflecting the Idea World. Not until the gods and goddesses are summoned to this world by someone, it can make their own divine nature materialize in this world. So, it thinks that the above is the fundamental thought extracted out of Ainu's worldview. So, let's recollect the characteristic and relationship of the "Kan-musubi" and "Takami-musubi". And, compare it to the Ainu's worldview. These gods look, like, to have been born of the logical conclusion of the Ainu's worldview. Needless to say, these gods aren't the gods Ainu believes. However, Ainu's culture has the characteristic of Jomon culture considerably. Therefore, it never be strange even if the concepts of those gods are led out of Ainu's worldview. The Jomon culture was at the peak of prosperity from the middle term of the Jomon period to the latter term of the Jomon period. Therefore, there is very strong possibility that those gods were born in that period. And, it can think that these gods are the philosophical crystal embodying the Jomon people's worldview. So, it seems that the thought that all the things of this world are the gods and goddesses was reflected to the people in the structure clearer than before in those days. However, if it considers the logical conclusion led out of their worldview deeply, it can see the concealed face of this worldview they didn't try to see. It is the opposite side of the bright side of the world of gods and goddesses. Takami-musubi sends gods and goddesses to this world, cooperating with Kan-musubi. And, this world whole is composed of the gods and goddesses sent like that. Jomon people look to have prised the bright side of their worldview, with gratitude. However, we can see the things hard to face, that is, various evils, various disasters, and various ugly or other at this world. In other words, it has to think that the things hard to face like that also are a part of the gods and goddesses composing this world if it considers their worldview logically. And, if so, the world of gods and goddesses is in the state of chaos, composed of the not distinguishable gods and goddesses, that is, the situation a goodness, a evil, a beauty and a ugliness are unclear. Then, it seems to be difficult that the gods and goddesses holding the hatred, or the gods and goddesses who haven't been offered the prayer called Kamui-nomi return to their world. It is because especially they have the strong attachment to this world. In that reason, it can think that this world not only is the place we live in but also is the place the ghosts and vengeful gods or other are in. Therefore, it doesn't seem that the concept of the land of the dead is led from the Jomon people's worldview originally. So, their world is composed of two worlds, that is, the world of gods and goddesses, and this world. But, The Jomon people's world never be the world to be explained with dualism. It seems that it is the world having to be explained with monism like the dualism, based on the relationship in between cognition-subject and "object for cognition". As for the relationship between cognition-subject and "object for cognition", it is explained in The subject and object to realize into "Kan-musubi" and "Takami-musubi". and The physical world the cognition-subject sees. In Japanese history, the Heian period was the most horrible times, in that the many ghosts, hungry devils and monsters, and so on roamed on the streets while spreading the fog of curse here and there. In those days, it is said that the political fights often happened between the nobles, and so on with the hideous sight. And, the muggers and robbers, the killers and kidnappers, and also the horrible poverty, and so on often were giving the people terrible pain. The dead from hunger were left on the streets without the burial here and there. On the other hand, the nobles were enjoying the terrifically extravagant life without the concern about the people's discontent. It was natural that the vengeful ghosts and the spirits of the dead without the burial kept on increasing, scattering the horrible curse here and there in those days. In passing, the present Japanese situation are about to be similar to the detestable situations like that seen at Heian period as if it is the schedule someone intended. Give yourself the care not to be possessed to such curse please! This is my advice. By the way, all the gods and goddesses materialize as the phenomenon, with coming to this world from the land of the gods and goddesses when it is summoned by words. It has to think so, if it follows the worldview Jomon people have. If so, even the other peoples or the enemy, and the evil, the ugliness exist as the god or goddess as it stated before. In that meaning, it can think that "the concepts having a soul", that is, the gods and goddesses have the equality and freedom without being restricted by anything at each divine nature. The gods and goddesses like that appear as the phenomenon, coming to this world, obeying one's own divine nature persistently. However, the gods and goddesses, to act with one's divine nature, needed the place they can be active, and also the leading them to the condition like that with words. It seems that the Jomon people in those days had known such logical conclusion though it doesn't know the extent of understanding, as it stated before. So, it seems they found out "Kan-musubi" and "Takami-musubi". In passing, I understood them each as "object for cognition" and "cognition-subject". The gods and goddesses materialized at this world because of the relationship of those gods. And, the materializing gods and goddesses were this world itself. In other words, it can understand the gods and goddesses active in this world as the phenomenon born of the relationship in between "cognition-subject" and "object for cognition". The world like that often gives the people the benefits, according to Jomon people. It seems that the Jomon people in those days understood the world(the Nature and human being ) favorably with the active attitude, under the understanding that the appeal in the words moves the world. The certain opinion says the Jomon people went to Chile of the South American continent, crossing the Pacific. And, the Micronesian and so on to belong to the old type Mongoloid are the habitant of the Pacific islands. If so, the opinions like that may be proper. It is because Jomon people also belong to the old type Mongoloid. | |||||
